At Lexis Japan, we use a practical communication-based curriculum in which even short-term students can become proficient in basic everyday Japanese. I studied at Lexis Japan around October of 2017 for a period of one month. I had already studied Japanese prior to coming and was looking for a refresher. They had a very good interview process to gauge where they thought I may fit best in terms of levels of study, to best suit me at the time. The teachers were all lovely, everyone was so kind and it all felt very friendly, not much distance between students and teachers. They were very easily approachable for questions or even just everyday conversation. The receptionists (Rika and Mio) were also extremely kind and helpful, willing to help with anything they could and any questions about living locally or even questions regarding your studies and living arrangements. The study space was very clean and nice, and the lounge area was great for just hanging out or having some lunch in. The location of the school is also extremely convenient, being very close to a major train station and shopping area. I would wholeheartedly (and have done so to my friends) recommend Lexis Japan.

Spending almost half a year studying Japanese at Lexis Japan has been a wonderful experience. The teachers at Lexis Japan are all very competent and enthusiastic about their work, both during class and outside of it. One thing I really appreciated about the teaching style at Lexis was the strong focus on communication; the ability to both understand and speak the language, with classes being taught exclusively in Japanese. While grammar is important of course, the ultimate goal of learning a language should always be the ability to converse in it and my time at Lexis Japan really helped me raise my Japanese to a level where I can communicate fluently on a basic level with the locals.

The staff at Lexis Japan is also very helpful in many other regards. Everyone can imagine the difficulty of navigating a country when one can’t yet understand or speak the language. But the staff at Lexis Japan is always very supportive. Not only do they organize accommodation or pick-up service upon arrival, they even help out with private travel planning by checking and buying train or plane tickets for example.

When I have the opportunity again, I definitely would like to go back to Lexis Japan to improve my Japanese!

I'm grateful for the opportunity to study at Lexis Japan. My classes have been a mixture of grammar lessons and one-on-one conversations with the teacher and other students. My classes have had between two and six students, so our teachers have been able to give each student ample individual attention and accommodate our various levels of knowledge. I've been studying at Lexis for only six weeks but due to the school's emphasis on conversation, I've noticed large improvements in my listening and speaking skills.

Lexis offers not only classes but also after-school cultural activities every day. By participating in these activities I've been able to put my Japanese knowledge into practice while bonding with my peers and getting to know the city of Kobe.

Over the past six weeks, my Japanese has come a long way and I've formed many invaluable friendships and memories. For anyone looking to study the language full-time while living in Japan, Lexis gets my recommendation.

Course Description: The intensive Japanese language course employs a curriculum designed to provide students with chances to apply the language they learn. There are many opportunities to speak in class which means that students can use the grammar and vocabulary that is taught. In addition to the core text that is taught in the morning, students can also participate in varying weekly activities and lessons covering Japanese culture and history, pronunciation, onomatopoeia, and more.
